Job summary

Recology in Oroville is seeking a skilled Journeyman mechanic to maintain and repair heavy landfill equipment and processing machinery. You will diagnose and fix diesel/CNG engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and will assist with fabrication tasks as needed.

The role requires DOT/CHP compliance knowledge and a valid CDL within 6 months, with opportunities to lead a maintenance team and contribute to a safety‑driven environment.

Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic or equivalent.
• Waste and recycling industry experience preferred.
• Experience with DOT Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP inspections and audits.
• Experience with maintenance of vehicles and processing equipment.
• Diesel and/or CNG engines; mechanical components and fabrication tools.
• Knowledge of electrical controls and motor systems.
• Familiarity with safety rules and job hazards.
• High school diploma or GED preferred; formal mechanical training desirable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses, tests and repairs vehicles and heavy landfill equipment including powertrains, drivetrains and systems.
• Diagnoses and repairs refuse vehicle and transfer trailer body systems including hydraulics and electrical.
• Maintains processing equipment such as balers, conveyors and motors.
• Performs basic fabrication work using welding equipment and torches.
• Orders and maintains shop parts, tools, and supplies.
• Completes paperwork and system entries accurately.
• Acts as lead worker, directing others and reviewing work.
