Job summary

The Marine Resources Commission seeks a Fisheries Aging Lab Specialist to lead routine ageing of finfish using hard parts. You will train and supervise hourly staff, coordinate lab activities, and ensure safety and organization in both dissection and ageing labs.

Responsibilities include purchasing and inventory, assisting QA/QC, preparing reports and data analyses, and contributing to outreach. Serves as secondary ageing structure reader for federally and state managed species.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in processing fish, extracting, preserving, and archiving hard parts using biological sampling data collection software and Microsoft Office macros.
• Organizing and maintaining tools, equipment, and materials in a scientific research lab.
• Education and experience in fish ageing using the hard parts.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and R.
• Ability to create and present scientific research results.

Responsibilities

• Lead technician in ageing lab; train, schedule, and supervise hourly staff.
• Coordinate lab activities for hourly staff and assist with processing fish and their hard parts.
• Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety in both the dissection lab and ageing lab.
• Handle purchasing and inventory of all lab equipment and supplies.
• Assist with QA/QC, preparing reports, data analysis, and outreach activities.
• Serve as the secondary ageing structure reader for federally and state managed finfish species.
