Job summary

William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science seeks a Research Specialist Advanced to lead Atlantic menhaden survey and tagging operations, and to contribute to lab processing of fish hard parts for age and stomach analyses. You will work within the Multispecies Research Group on field and lab activities.

You’ll collaborate with a large team, manage field data using FEED software, and support grant administration and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or equivalent experience.
• Experience in laboratory, field, and research settings.
• Ability to lead field sampling and data collection.
• Knowledge of budget management and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead field-based research activities including tagging and surveys.
• Prepare and process biological samples for age/diet analyses.
• Write reports and contribute to manuscripts and data summaries.
• Coordinate budget expenditures and support grant administration.
• Supervise and mentor lower-level staff and troubleshoot equipment.
