Job summary

Lumentum in San Jose (On-Site) is seeking a Principal Firmware Engineer to lead architecture, design, and development of embedded firmware for high-reliability optical systems. You will own firmware architecture, drive technical direction across platforms, and collaborate with hardware, systems, and manufacturing to deliver robust firmware meeting performance and reliability goals.

Required: 10+ years embedded firmware, strong C/C++, RTOS and bare-metal, board bring-up, and experience with

Qualifications

Bachelor-level degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, CS, or related field; MS preferred.
10+ years in embedded firmware with shipped products.
Strong C/C++ for embedded systems and experience with RTOS and bare-metal.
Proficient with board bring-up, debugging tools, and lab instrumentation.

Responsibilities

Own firmware architecture and roadmaps for embedded platforms.
Lead end-to-end firmware development from requirements to production release.
Develop firmware for MCU/MPU-based systems, including drivers and bring-up.
Define interfaces across firmware, hardware, FPGA, optics, and host software.
Drive reliability, diagnostics, telemetry, and state-machine design.
Lead design/code reviews and root-cause analysis for field issues.
Collaborate with Systems, Hardware, Optical Engineering, Test, and Manufacturing.
