Job summary

Saildrone is seeking a Vehicle Assembly & Service Technician to lead the assembly and service of our autonomous surface vehicles, collaborating with engineering, operations, and production teams. You will travel globally to deploy, recover, and repair vehicles, translating field realities into product improvements.

Qualifications

• Five or more years applying electrical and mechanical skills in a technical service role in field/shiplard/industrial settings, following service diagrams and using a range of tools from hand tools to rigging.
• Ability to lead and train teams, including contractors, to deliver on plans and educate end-users on assembly and servicing.
• Strong organizational habits; define, follow, and improve safety, process, and record-keeping.
• U.S. Person Status with eligibility for DoD security clearance; willing to travel 75% domestically and internationally.
• Desire to deliver industry-defining customer service for external customers and Saildrone colleagues.
• Experience planning and leading technically complex field operations for a global OEM in various heavy industries.
• Experience in fast-paced startup environment or in serviceability/manufacturability design roles.
• Ability to diagnose and repair electro-mechanical systems in a marine environment.
• Experience near water with rigging, mooring, and basic boat handling knowledge.
• Experience with heavy equipment loading, shipping prep, offloading, relocation; forklift/crane operation.
• Experience driving 30+ ft twin-engine powerboats with vehicles in tow; sea experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead fleet assembly and service workflows to keep drones mission-capable and uptime high.
• Apply mechanical and electrical skills to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment in challenging environments.
• Travel domestically and internationally to deploy, recover, and repair Saildrone vehicles.
• Mentor contractors, clients, and third parties on assembly and servicing procedures.
• Represent Saildrone professionally with clients and colleagues.
• Continuously improve workflows, safety, and efficiency through feedback.
