Job summary

Socket.dev in Houston, TX seeks a Lead Field Service Technician - Power Systems to start up, commission, test, and troubleshoot electrical power distribution systems at customer sites in the greater Houston area. You will serve as on-site technical lead, executing complex field projects and ensuring safe energization.

Regular local travel within Texas is required; extended hours may be needed during critical commissioning or energization activities.

Qualifications

5–10+ years in field service, commissioning, or electrical testing.
Experience with medium/low voltage power distribution systems.
Ability to lead field projects independently.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Excellent communication and leadership in field settings.
Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

Lead startup, commissioning, and acceptance testing of electrical power systems, including MV/LV switchgear, MCCs, and VFDs.
Perform advanced electrical testing: insulation resistance, contact resistance, relay testing, functional verification.
Interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and control logic.
Diagnose and resolve system issues independently in the field.
Serve as on-site lead, coordinating with customers, contractors, and engineers.
Make real-time decisions during energization and project execution.
Prepare complete, accurate field service reports.
Mentor and develop junior technicians in field operations.
Ensure adherence to NFPA 70E and OSHA safety standards.
Support continuous improvement of field processes.
Travel to customer sites as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
