Job summary

Metra Commuter Rail is seeking a Senior Field Engineer for its Capital Delivery Department in Chicago. You will implement large railroad and civil construction projects and coordinate with contractors, consultants, and Metra forces to ensure timely completion.

You will review designs, specifications, and estimates for accuracy, monitor QA/QC, and interface with agencies and public meetings related to grant projects. Flexibility for non-standard hours is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Eight years of civil engineering/construction experience, preferably in rail/transport or related industry.
• Knowledge of railroad operations, track construction, maintenance or design.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Strong verbal and written communication; analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee large, complex railroad and civil construction projects.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and Metra forces to ensure project completion.
• Interface with agencies and manage track construction, layout, and surveying activities.
• Review designs, specs and estimates for accuracy and constructability; monitor QA/QC.
• Respond to RFIs/ROCCs; represent engineering at public meetings and grant-related hearings.
• Support day-to-day operations and adapt to flexible hours, including non-operating times.
