Job Description Summary
GE Vernova’s Power Conversion & Storage business combines advanced energy conversion and storage systems to meet the electrification needs of utilities and industries. The Lead Field Service Engineer – Power Systems, under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks and ensures proper installation, service, and commissioning of products and services. Provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects, and offers maintenance, emergency breakdown support, and remote troubleshooting.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Performs installation and commissioning activities at customer site locations during ship construction. Capable of working unsupervised and leading small teams.
  2. Performs troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
  3. Performs a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE Power systems and associated control systems.
  4. Develops presentations and provides training and instruction to customers on system operations.
  5. Advises the customer of recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve customer productivity and sell GE parts and services.
  6. Performs other related engineering tasks to facilitate proper commissioning and customer satisfaction.
  7. Provides on-call support in response to customer calls for service.
  8. Performs work onboard vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines, either in shipyards or offshore.
  9. Extended hours/overtime may be required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
  10. Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of field service and/or commissioning experience in a power systems environment, preferably in a marine setting.
Eligibility Requirements:
  • US Citizen capable of obtaining security clearance for DoD projects.
  • Willingness to travel up to 85% on short notice.
  • Physically fit to board vessels offshore.
  • Ability to pass HUET and offshore survival courses.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or Associate's Degree with additional experience.
  • Experience with switchgear, circuit breakers, sensing instruments, transformers, motor control centers, soft starters, VFDs, transfer switches, protection relays, power quality meters, AVR, governors, synchronizers, load sharing systems, and related electrical systems.
  • Ability to execute complex engineering tasks independently.
