TDS Telecom in Missoula, MT is seeking a Senior Fiber Construction Technician to oversee the construction and maintenance of PON/fiber network facilities. The role involves advanced operation of trenchers, backhoes, and other excavation equipment, plus coordinating internal and external resources to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of construction equipment operation using underground and aerial equipment (directional drills, trencher/plow/rock saw, backhoe, bucket trucks).
• 1+ years of experience leading individuals and/or teams through mentorship, coaching, and project management.
• Must follow attendance guidelines to meet business needs and customer needs.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.

Responsibilities

• Receive maps/staking sheets and ensure project is built with limited guidance.
• Communicate updates to the project team as required.
• Manage daily/weekly work based on deadlines, materials, weather, and availability.
• Coordinate with supervisor to ensure materials and work readiness.
• Draft and submit redlines upon project completion.
• Ensure locates are performed on time before crew/equipment arrival.
• Engage municipalities, utility companies, suppliers, contractors, and property owners to coordinate tasks.
• Read plans and permits and determine approach for completion.
• Maintain project documentation and track material costs.
• Ensure DOT inspections on equipment.
• Work with project managers to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Perform general construction labor in various weather conditions with safety fundamentals.
• Operate trenchers, backhoes, loaders, plows, and other equipment for outside plant fiber facilities.
• Operate test equipment for outside plant facilities and construction duties.
• Install, troubleshoot, test, splice, repair, and maintain fiber facilities.
