Job summary

CENTERS, LLC is seeking a Lead Event Technician-Audio-Visual for Pepperdine's Mountain Waves Arena and Mullin Park project. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and support AV systems for live events, collaborating with campus stakeholders and vendors to deliver reliable, guest-centered experiences in a hybrid on-site team.

Open evenings and weekends as needed; requires strong leadership and training skills; CTS or Extron certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 or more years of work experience.
  • Two or more years of experience supporting high-profile live events, audiovisual technology, event production, broadcast support, or a closely related area required.
  • Possession of CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D, Extron, Dante, or comparable professional audiovisual technology certifications is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality support for arena technology hardware, software products, audio-visual equipment, broadcast equipment, and live event technology.
  • Configure, operate, test, and troubleshoot AV, broadcast, graphics, routing, and event-related technical equipment before, during, and after events.
  • Lead integration testing and provide input during project planning, requirements gathering, setup, and post-event review.
  • Create, monitor, and update service tickets for assigned work; document troubleshooting notes, resolutions, recurring issues, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide on-the-spot training, technical guidance, and service explanations to faculty, staff, students, clients, guests, vendors, and event partners.
  • Coordinate technology resources, support event schedules, and help resolve resource conflicts when demand exceeds available capacity.
  • Maintain team operations guides, training materials, frequently asked questions, equipment documentation, and shared technical resources.
  • Identify service improvements based on support trends, client feedback, event outcomes, peer input, and operational assessment.
  • Support clean, safe, organized, and professional workspaces, storage areas, control rooms, and shared event environments.
  • Provide technical guidance, event direction, task coordination, and training support to student employees, part-time employees, temporary staff, vendors, or event support personnel as assigned.
  • Site-specific responsibilities: support AV operations for Mountain Waves Arena and related spaces; represent CENTERS professionally; develop relationships with campus personnel; respond to last-minute changes by coordinating reconfiguration; assist with AV projects and upgrades; other duties as required.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Mountain AV Manager,the Lead Event Technician-Audio-Visual provides advanced technical maintenance, event support, troubleshooting, and user training for audio-visual, broadcast, and live event technology at Mountain Waves Arena and other AV-enabled spaces. This positionmaintainsprimary operational oversight of assigned technical functions, supports events that may occur during business hours, evenings, and weekends, and partners with campus stakeholders, vendors, and CENTERS team members to deliver reliable, professional, and guest-centered event experiences.

This position works on-site atPepperdine as part of a hybrid AV Team serving the new Mountain at Mullin Park multi-purpose facility. Opening in October 2026, the Mountain at Mullin Park will transform the University’s main campus. Thisstate-of-the-artcomplex will not only be home to leading fitness and well-being resources for the entire Pepperdine community, the estimated 3,600-seat arena will givethebasketball and indoor volleyball teams an extraordinary home court facilitycommensuratewith those throughout the West Coast Conference.

Essential Functions

  • Provide high-quality support for arena technology hardware, software products, audio-visual equipment, broadcast equipment, and live event technology.
  • Configure, operate, test, and troubleshoot audio-visual, broadcast, graphics, routing, and event-related technical equipment before, during, and after events.
  • Use established scripts, checklists, service procedures, and good judgment to resolve issues promptly and escalte matters when needed.
  • Lead integration testing and provide input during project planning, requirements gathering, setup, and post-event review.
  • Create, monitor, and update service tickets for assigned work; document troubleshooting notes, resolutions, recurring issues, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide on-the-spot training, technical guidance, and service explanations to faculty, staff, students, clients, guests, vendors, and event partners.
  • Coordinate technology resources, support event schedules, and help resolve resource conflicts when demand exceeds available capacity.
  • Maintain team operations guides, training materials, frequently asked questions, equipment documentation, and shared technical resources.

Site Specific Responsibilities

  • Support audio-visual operations for Mountain Waves Arena and related AV-enabled event spaces.
  • Represent CENTERS and the client institution professionally when working with internal departments, external vendors, event clients, public guests, and campus partners.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with campus personnel, student-facing departments, technical partners, and contracted service providers.
  • Respond to last-minute event changes by coordinating technical reconfiguration, equipment routing, graphics, audio, and other live event support needs within the scope of responsibility.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of AV projects, consultations, service improvements, and technology upgrades as assigned.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 or more years of work experience.
  • Two or more years of experience supporting high-profile live events, audiovisual technology, event production, broadcast support, concert support, information technology, or a closely related area required.
  • Possession of Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), CTS-I, CTS-D, Extron, Dante, or comparable professional audiovisual technology certifications is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent working knowledge of standard audiovisual hardware and software products, with the ability to support arena-specific audiovisual systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers, applications, and technology tools in a networked environment.
  • Familiarity with Extron-manufactured products and associated troubleshooting and maintenance preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer service communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing event conditions, and maintain professional service standards in visible client-facing environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize competing duties and deadlines.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work Environment

  • Campus arena, event, office, control room, and AV-enabled facility environment.
  • Non-smoking environment.
  • Noise levels may be distracting or uncomfortable during events, rehearsals, testing, and live production activity.
  • Evening, weekend, and after-hours work as required to support scheduled events, urgent technical needs, and venue operations.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout arena, campus, event, and technical support environments.

  • Constantly uses manual dexterity, finger dexterity, wrist-finger speed, visual color discrimination, depth perception, peripheral vision, and related visual acuity while operating technical systems.

  • Occasionally reaches overhead and ascends or descends building levels, ladders, stools, lifts, platforms, or similar equipment as needed for event setup and troubleshooting.

  • Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 20 pounds; occasionally lifts, carries, moves, or sets up equipment weighing between 21 and 50 pounds or more with appropriate assistance and safe work practices.

  • Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with staff, students, faculty, vendors, clients, performers, guests, and other stakeholders.
