Job summary

The City of Fayetteville, North Carolina, is seeking an Equipment Operator III in the Solid Waste Division to operate medium and heavy power-driven equipment requiring a Class B CDL. The role involves assisting with collection of municipal solid waste and recyclables, maintaining city streets, parks, and other properties, and leading a crew on assigned tasks.

Candidates should have 2+ years operating heavy equipment, a high school diploma, and a valid Class B CDL with insurability.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience involving the skilled operation of refuse equipment or heavy construction and maintenance equipment.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• Possession of a Class B CDL and ability to maintain insurability.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium and heavy power-driven equipment such as refuse trucks, yard waste trucks, excavators, road-graders, knuckle boom trucks, and similar gear.
• Lead a crew and perform maintenance on city property and right-of-ways.
• Assist with collection of municipal solid waste and recycling materials and debris removal from streets and rights-of-way.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Follow safety rules and procedures and participate in training classes.
