The City of South Lake Tahoe is seeking an experienced Equipment Mechanic III to perform advanced maintenance, diagnostic, repair, and fabrication work on the City’s fleet and equipment.

Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, this advanced journey-level position leads and assists mechanics while performing the most complex repairs to various vehicles and equipment, including snow-removal and public safety gear.

Qualifications

• Four years of increasingly responsible automotive and equipment maintenance experience.
• Education or specialized training sufficient to read, write, and perform skilled fleet maintenance work.
• Valid California or Nevada Class B driver’s license, or ability to obtain one by start date.
• ASE Master certification in Heavy Equipment preferred.

Responsabilités

• Lead, train, and assign work to mechanics and helpers.
• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and communications issues.
• Perform major repairs and overhauls of engines, transmissions, hydraulics, steering, brakes, and exhaust.
• Welding, fabrication, and metalwork.
• Inspect work, manage schedules, records, and inventory.
• Support Police, Fire, and snow-removal equipment maintenance.
• Assist with shop safety and hazardous-material procedures.
• Back up Inventory Control Specialist and Shop Supervisor as needed.
• Work extended or 12-hour shifts during snow-removal operations.
