Job summary

City of Midland, Texas seeks a skilled maintenance mechanic to diagnose and repair city-wide light equipment and vehicles. Responsibilities include electrical, engine, and HVAC repairs, safety inspections, and making ready new vehicles, using a variety of diagnostic tools and hand tools.

The role requires reading diagrams, collaborating with departments, and performing emergency repairs after hours. Strong mechanical knowledge and welding/fabricating skills are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, and vendors to diagnose repairs and order materials.
• Knowledge of welding and fabricating tools and equipment.
• Ability to read manuals, blueprints and specifications.
• Ability to safely use tools, vehicles and equipment such as diagnostic equipment and various testers.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses equipment and vehicle malfunctions such as ignition, steering, engine control, electrical, heating, and air conditioning.
• Estimates costs and repairs to specifications.
• Performs state safety inspections on all city-wide vehicles.
• Make ready all new vehicles and equipment; installs special equipment.
• Employee must provide own hand tools with a roll-around toolbox.
• City supplies major equipment including power tools, computerized analyzers, and other diagnostic equipment.
• Reads electrical diagrams, manuals and specifications for repairs and diagnostic work.
• Performs emergency repairs for various departments during and after regular hours.
• Cleans and maintains shop facilities, equipment, tools, and grounds.
• Maintains records of work performed such as work orders and logs.
