Job summary

Elevance Health is seeking a Distinguished Engineer – AI Adoption in Chicago to accelerate AI adoption across the enterprise. The role combines hands-on engineering leadership with collaboration across business units, security, and compliance to deploy AI at scale.

You will design reusable AI frameworks, evaluate models and vendors, and drive production-ready patterns across cloud, APIs, and microservices, while ensuring Responsible AI and governance are in place.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 15 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions using Python, Java, or comparable object‑oriented programming languages; experience designing and implementing APIs, microservices, and event‑driven architectures; and applying cloud, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise AI adoption by partnering with business units and engineering teams to identify, evaluate, and implement practical AI solutions.
• Partner with business units to translate problems into AI-enabled solution designs, including agentic workflows, LLM apps, retrieval‑augmented generation, automation, and decision support.
• Evaluate AI vendors, platforms, foundation models, agentic tools, and testing through proofs of concepts and benchmarks.
• Design reusable agentic frameworks, reference architectures, prompts, orchestration approaches, and integration models for enterprise use.
• Provide hands-on engineering leadership across cloud platforms, APIs, microservices, and DevOps environments.
