Job summary

  • Proficient in hardware-in-the-loop, model-in-the-loop and/or software-in-the-loop platforms.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy systems including power distribution and related electronics.
  • Experience translating real-world energy problems into robust modeling/simulation platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop physics-based modeling and simulation environments for electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems used in distributed energy resources and power distribution.
  • Create FEA or CFD simulations of critical components to optimize robustness, cost, and manufacturing.
  • Conduct product architecture trade studies and optimization for performance and cost.
  • Integrate component data into models for technoeconomic analysis of architectures.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to validate models and communicate results.
  • Utilize DOE, optimization, and data-driven tools for model development and analysis.
  • Use models to verify and validate controls software and perform related duties as required.

Faith Technologies Inc. (FTI) is searching for a Modeling and Simulation Lead Engineer to support the R&D product group in Menasha, WI.

As a Modeling & Simulation Lead Engineer in the R&D group, you will be responsible for developing advanced modeling and simulation environments for electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems and enclosures used in distributed energy resources and power distribution. Collaborating with subject matter experts, product strategy teams, and systems engineers, you will create accurate and efficient simulations that meet requirements and support product development. Furthermore, you will develop and oversee the implementation of modeling and simulation processes as critical milestones for development and validation of technologies and products within the Product Engineering organization. Through your expertise, you will play a key role in driving innovation and performance improvements in distributed energy and power distribution systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems simulation.
  • Knowledge of multi-physics modeling software such as Simulink, Simscape, Simcenter Amesim, GT Suite, or similar OR experience with using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to develop models and conduct analysis
  • Proficient in development and use of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), model-in-loop (MIL), and/or software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation platforms
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy systems including solar, wind, power, or power distribution concepts including uninterrupted power supply, power converters, switchboards, and/or other power electronics
  • Demonstrated implementation of real-world power generation and distribution problems into complex modeling and simulation platforms
  • Demonstrated development and implementation of modular component models with scalable flexibility for various levels of simulation fidelity
What gives you an edge?
  • Experience with machine learning models generated from data a plus
  • Experience with development of SIL, MIL, and HIL platforms for verification and validation of controls software
  • Experience using multi-physics simulation software for systems, computational fluid dynamics software, or finite element analysis software for design
  • Strong understanding of controls systems, particularly battery management, thermal system management, and energy management software and development and verification through use of simulation frameworks
  • Experience using version control for modeling and simulation including Git or other similar tools
  • PhD in electrical or mechanical engineering with demonstrated simulation experience, or demonstrated engineering research background

Travel: 5-10%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.

Work Location: Must be onsite in Menasha, WI 3 days a week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop physics-based modeling and simulation environment for a variety of electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems for distributed energy resources and power distribution
  • Develop FEA or CFD simulations of critical components and structures to optimize robustness, cost, and guide product manufacturing
  • Conduct product architecture trade studies and optimization to ensure maximized performance and minimal costs
  • Integrate cost, weight, and specification data of components, systems, and renewable energy fuels into simulation models for technoeconomic analysis of architecture options
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to characterize components and systems in a simulation environment and communicate analysis results
  • Utilize DOE, optimization methods, and data driven modeling and analysis tools
  • Use models and simulation platforms to verify and validate controls software
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
