Job description

Sr. Engineer, M&S, Systems Performance – FTI

As a Systems Performance Modeling & Simulation Engineer in the R&D group, you will develop advanced physics‑based and empirical modeling and simulation environments for electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems used in distributed energy resources and power distribution. You will collaborate with subject‑matter experts, product strategy teams, and systems engineers to create accurate and efficient simulations that meet requirements and support product development. Your expertise will drive innovation and performance improvements in distributed energy and power distribution systems.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems simulation.
  • Proficiency in time‑domain simulation software such as MATLAB, Simulink, or similar tools for pure simulation or real‑time operating platforms.
  • Knowledge of multi‑physics modeling software such as Simscape, Simcenter Amesim, GT Suite, or similar.
  • Proficient in hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL), model‑in‑loop (MIL), and software‑in‑the‑loop (SIL) simulation platforms, including integration of plant and controls models.
  • Experience with HIL platforms including dSpace, speedgoat, NI, or others for testing of controls systems.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy systems including solar, wind, power conversion, and battery energy storage systems.
  • Knowledge of power distribution concepts including uninterrupted power supply, power converters, switchboards, and other power electronics.
  • Familiarity with thermal management systems for battery energy storage, HVAC systems for power distribution enclosures, and their characterization as required for performance‑level modeling and simulation.
  • Demonstrated implementation of real‑world power generation and distribution problems into complex modeling and simulation platforms.
  • Demonstrated development and implementation of modular component models with scalable flexibility for various levels of simulation fidelity.
Preferred Requirements
