Job summary

Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley is seeking a Lead Endoscopy Technician to serve as the technical and operational lead for Endoscopy Services. This role supports procedural operations, equipment management, and workflow coordination to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

You will guide Endoscopy Technicians, promote standard work, and assist with onboarding, competency validation, and continuous improvement.

A Brief Overview

The Lead Endoscopy Technician serves as the technical and operational lead for Endoscopy Services and functions as an advanced subject matter expert supporting procedural operations, patient care activities, endoscopy equipment management, and workflow coordination. The Lead provides day-to-day guidance to Endoscopy Technicians, promotes standard work, supports staff onboarding and competency validation, and assists leadership with operational readiness and quality initiatives. Reporting to the Manager of Endoscopy Services, the Lead Endoscopy Technician collaborates with physicians, nursing, anesthesia, sterile processing, infection prevention, scheduling, and support services to ensure safe, efficient, reliable, patient-centered care. The Lead serves as a resource for troubleshooting, training, equipment readiness, procedural support, and continuous improvement activities. This role does not have direct personnel management responsibilities but provides operational leadership and technical direction for the Endoscopy Technician team.

What you will do

Daily Operations and Workflow Coordination

Coordinate daily technical workflow and assignments in collaboration with nursing leadership and procedural teams. Assist with room utilization, procedural readiness, equipment availability, supply management, and turnaround efficiency. Serve as the primary technical resource for problem-solving and escalation of equipment or workflow concerns. Support daily huddles and communicate operational priorities, staffing needs, and procedural updates. Assist with coordination of add-on cases, schedule changes, and case flow optimization.

Clinical and Procedural Support

Perform advanced endoscopy technician functions and provide procedural support during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Anticipate procedural needs through knowledge of endoscopic anatomy, clinical indications, and physician preferences. Support proper specimen handling, labeling, transport, and documentation according to departmental standards. Assist with specialized procedures, advanced therapeutic interventions, and emerging technologies as appropriate. Monitor the procedural environment and communicate safety concerns, breaks in technique, or equipment issues immediately.

Technical Resource and Staff Development

Serve as lead preceptor for orientation and onboarding of new Endoscopy Technicians. Provide day-to-day coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to staff. Assist leadership with competency validation, skills assessment, and tracking of required education. Reinforce departmental policies, regulatory standards, standard work, and best practices. Model professional behaviors that promote teamwork, accountability, service excellence, and patient-centered care.

Equipment, Reprocessing, and Regulatory Support

Monitor readiness and proper functioning of endoscopic equipment, accessories, and procedural technologies. Assist with troubleshooting, reporting, and follow-up of equipment failures and service issues. Promote compliance with endoscope handling, storage, transportation, and high-level disinfection processes. Support inventory management, par-level monitoring, and supply utilization initiatives. Collaborate with Infection Prevention, Sterile Processing, and Quality teams to maintain regulatory compliance and survey readiness.

Quality, Safety, and Performance Improvement

Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, workflow efficiency, patient experience, and operational performance. Identify opportunities to improve procedural readiness, room turnover, supply utilization, and staff communication. Support data collection, audits, competency monitoring, and corrective action activities. Assist with investigation and follow-up of safety events, equipment concerns, and process deviations. Promote a culture of safety, transparency, continuous learning, and high reliability.

Education Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required Associate's Degree preferred

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible endoscopy technician experience required. Demonstrated expertise in advanced endoscopic procedures, procedural support, equipment troubleshooting, and workflow coordination. Previous experience serving as a preceptor, mentor, trainer, charge technician, or informal team lead preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of endoscopy procedures, anatomy and physiology, endoscopic equipment, and procedural workflows.
• Knowledge of endoscope handling, infection prevention practices, and high-level disinfection standards.
• Ability to coordinate workflow and prioritize competing operational demands.
• Strong communication, mentoring, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to identify operational issues and recommend effective solutions.
• Ability to support quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems and departmental technology platforms.
• Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams.

Base Pay Scale

Generally starting at $32.97 - $41.21 per hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
