Job summary

Midcoast Animal Emergency Clinic in Warren, Maine, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician or Advanced Veterinary Assistant to join our after-hours emergency team. This non-entry level role requires confidence managing a fast-moving caseload and guiding less experienced staff.

You will perform advanced nursing care, assist with anesthesia, diagnostics, and patient monitoring, and maintain clear communication with clients and the medical team in high-pressure situations.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on experience in veterinary emergency, urgent care, or high-volume clinical practice.
• Strong emergency triage and patient-assessment skills.
• Ability to work independently with initiative and good clinical judgment.

Responsibilities

• Rapidly assess incoming emergency patients and prioritize care based on needs.
• Perform thorough physical assessments and document findings, treatments, and updates.
• Anticipate veterinarians' needs and prepare patients, equipment, and areas accordingly.
• Provide advanced nursing care to hospitalized, urgent, and emergent patients.
• Assist with emergency stabilization, diagnostic procedures, and surgical preparation.
