Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough, ME is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician to join a 24/7 practice. Expect day and night shifts, a comprehensive benefits package, and an incentive bonus up to $5,000 based on experience and licensure.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in an emergency veterinary hospital required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong clinical skills.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented.
  • Credentialed candidates (LVT, CVT, or RVT) are strongly desired for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and other staff in a variety of situations.
  • Delegate tasks in effective and efficient manners.
  • Assist in daily housekeeping and general hospital tasks that include cleaning cages and daily task lists to the acceptable hospital standards.
  • Provide discharge instructions and client education regarding services provided.
  • Provide compassionate and quality care to clients and patients.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with all hospital staff.
  • Prepare estimates for recommended services and discuss finances with clients in person or on the phone.
  • Possess knowledge of veterinary medicine, terminology, and treatments.
  • Follow all safety and handling protocols, and OSHA compliance standards.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as asked by the Supervisor.
  • Perform clinical tasks, such as taking vital signs, conducting basic laboratory tests, administering medications, and aiding with medical procedures, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Perform anesthesia induction, maintenance, and recovery.
  • Be a team player mentality defined by trust, learning, and collaboration.
  • Ability to stay focused in turbulent environments.
  • Assist in emergency situations, such as controlling bleeding, administering medications or fluids, and performing CPR.
  • Assist in the aftercare process in a respectful manner.
