Job summary

Axiom Space seeks an experienced Electromagnetic Compatibility and Interference Engineer Principal (Lv 5) to own the EMC behavior of the Axiom Station. You will tailor MIL-STD-461H to the vehicle, lead supplier EMC activities, and verify test plans and results for a complex, high‑reliability space platform.

You will collaborate across teams to define requirements, write control plans, and ensure compliance through SRR, PDR, CDR, and NASA reviews, while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
• 12+ years of experience owning EMC programs on at least one vehicle through qualification.
• Proficient with MIL-STD-461 test methods and practice.
• Ability to tailor standards to project needs with documented rationale.
• Experience directing supplier EMC activity and test witnessing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Own the EMC control and verification plan: applicable standards, tailoring rationale, order of precedence, limits, applicability matrices, and the verification approach for each requirement.
• Tailor conducted and radiated emission and susceptibility requirements from MIL-STD-461H, MSFC-SPEC-521D, MSFC-STD-3790, and SSP 30237 to the vehicle, and defend the tailoring to the customer.
• Flow EMC requirements into equipment procurement specifications, statements of work, and interface control documents, with the test method, the limit, the applicability, and the data deliverable stated unambiguously.
• Define and control the electromagnetic environment: internal and external RF environment, hull shielding effectiveness, magnetic field limits, and margin policy.
• Review and approve supplier EMC test plans and procedures, witness testing, and qualify test facilities.
• Own EMC test failure disposition, waiver process, and data basis for acceptance.
• Own cable and wiring electromagnetic practice and enforce through harness drawings.
• Support filter design and emissions control at the source, including switching power conversion behavior.
• Own ESD control for ground handling and flight, solar array charging, and spacecraft charging coordination.
• Disposition COTS equipment: evaluate data, define qualification testing, and maintain evidence matrix.
