Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. in Pullman, WA, is seeking a Lead Compliance Engineer - EMC to oversee EMC testing programs for industrial equipment.

You will lead projects, provide technical support to customers, and mentor engineers and technicians in EMC testing. The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering, 8+ years of EMC compliance experience, and hands-on knowledge of EMC testing equipment.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of EMC compliance test experience at electronics development/manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with EMC design mitigation methods for industrial/public utility environments.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of EMC testing equipment.
  • Experience with IEC/EN/KN 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -5, -6, -8, -9, -10, -11, -12, -16, -17, -18, -29; IEC/EN 61000-3-2, -3; IEC/EN/KN 60255-26; IEEE C37.90.x; FCC Part 15B and CISPR 11, 22, 32.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of EMC testing standards for automation, communication, monitoring, and protection equipment.
  • Develop compliance tests, procedures, and reports for ISO/IEC 17025‑compliant EMC testing.
  • Provide general technical and design assistance to product development teams.
  • Mentor Engineers and Technicians in EMC testing.
  • Lead projects and provide technical support to customers from SEL's test facility.

Typical day
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the applicable standards and requirements for the EMC testing of automation, communication, monitoring, and protection equipment for industrial and public utility environments.
  • Develop compliance tests, procedures, and reports for EMC testing in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Develop and maintain a general understanding of SEL products and markets.
  • Provide general technical and design assistance to product development teams.
  • Mentor Engineers and Technicians in EMC testing.
Job qualification and experience
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, or relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience with EMC compliance test methods and philosophies at an electronics development and manufacturing company
  • Familiarity with EMC design mitigation methods and best practices for equipment in industrial and public utility environments
  • Hands on working knowledge of common EMC testing equipment
  • Experience with the following: IEC/EN/KN 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -5, -6, -8, -9, -10, -11, -12, -16, -17, -18, -29; IEC/EN 61000-3-2, -3; IEC/EN/KN 60255-26; IEEE C37.90.1, .2, .3; Unintentional Radiators (FCC Part 15B and CISPR 11, 22, 32)
  • Self‑motivated/self‑starter
  • Strong writing, documentation, and public speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

Salary Information We anticipate filling this position as a Lead Compliance Engineer at $115,290 -$170,349 per year. We base our starting pay offer and title on job‑related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
