Job summary

Madison Metropolitan School District is seeking a Lead Custodian for Mendota Elementary. This role, under Building Services, oversees cleaning and maintenance, directing the work of custodial staff and training others.

The position ensures safety, order, and efficient operations across the building. Responsibilities include planning daily activities, coordinating outdoor maintenance, and maintaining equipment, boilers, and safety systems.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and directing custodial staff.
• Ability to schedule, train, inspect, and coordinate custodial work.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prioritize custodial work for each day.
• Direct Custodian Worker I/II and lead building custodians.
• Provide coaching and training to custodial staff as needed.
• Coordinate outdoor duties including trash pickup, landscaping, mowing, snow/ice removal, and seasonal maintenance.
• Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs as needed.
• Meet with principal weekly to review tasks and standards.
• Order custodial supplies and manage logs and records.
