Placements24 client is seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer in Randburg, SA, to lead power distribution design across substations and reticulation networks. You will mentor engineers, manage client relationships, and ensure high design quality for major projects.

You should have a PE registration, 9+ years in power systems, and strong knowledge of SA codes and ETAP/AutoCAD. The role offers growth and involvement in national infrastructure upgrades.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Engineering specialization preferred).
• A minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in electrical power distribution system design and engineering.
• Proven experience in leading design teams and managing technical aspects of power projects.
• In-depth knowledge of substation design, medium and low voltage reticulation, and protection systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design software and power system analysis tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP).
• Strong understanding of relevant South African electrical codes and standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering for power distribution projects, from conceptualization to detailed design.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications for substations and distribution networks.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, fault analysis, and protection coordination.
• Oversee the creation of construction drawings, cable schedules, and site layouts.
• Mentor and guide a team of electrical engineers and designers, ensuring technical excellence.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
• Review designs for compliance with relevant codes, standards (e.g., NRS, IEC), and best practices.
• Provide technical support during project execution, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Contribute to the development of engineering standards and procedures.
