Job summary

Plug Power seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as the electrical technical authority for hydrogen fuel cell power systems. You will lead electrical design decisions, drive verification, and mentor the team at our Slingerlands, NY facility.

The role spans power electronics, embedded controls, system architecture, and stage-gate development, with travel up to 10% and a focus on delivering robust, manufacturable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering; Master's preferred.
• 10+ years in power electronics in regulated industries.
• DC/DC converter design, magnetics, thermal, EMC expertise.
• Embedded controls on DSP/MCU/FPGA platforms.
• System-level electrical architecture, PCB ECAD tools.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and validate DC/DC power converters for fuel cell interfaces.
• Drive EMI/EMC mitigation from schematic to PCB layout and system validation.
• Oversee schematic capture, PCB layout, components, and DFM; lead design reviews.
• Lead embedded control systems on DSP/MCU/FPGA; define HW-SW interfaces.
• Own top-level electrical architecture: power distribution, harness, grounding.
• Define BOP electrical requirements for pumps, fans, sensors; coordinate with Thermal.
• Lead UL/CE/NFPA2/SAE compliance and DFMEA, safety analyses.
• Define DVP&R; lead DV/PV testing including environmental qualification.
• Drive 8D/DMAIC root-cause processes; maintain DFMEA.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain on sourcing and second sources.
• Drive DFM/DFT with Ops to resolve assembly/test issues.
• Close field reliability loop from warranty data to design.
• Lead NPI programs and platform upgrades with TRL and risk tracking.
• Present status at cross-functional reviews; balance cost vs performance.
• Mentor engineers; drive continuous improvement; professional representation.
