Job summary

Plug Power Inc. in its Slingerlands, NY facility seeks a Senior Systems Engineer for Fuel Cell Systems to act as the technical authority for architecture and requirements, leading cross-disciplinary teams through structured stage-gate development.

The role requires driving MBSE traceability and ensuring regulatory compliance across NFPA 2, SAE, ISO and UL hydrogen standards. Ideal candidates bring deep systems engineering fundamentals, experience launching industrialized products in regulated

Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Systems or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of systems engineering in high-reliability industries.
Experience taking industrialized products from concept to production using stage-gate/DFSS or similar.
Formal requirements management with full traceability to verification (Jama/DOORS).
Familiarity with fuel cell, hydrogen, or power systems and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

Lead development of fuel cell system and subsystem architectures to meet customer needs and objectives.
Own system-level requirements and manage traceability through verification and lifecycle.
Define energy management for hybrid fuel cell and battery systems based on load profiles.
Coordinate cross-functional integration across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines.
Ensure compliance with NFPA 2, SAE, ISO, UL hydrogen standards; support regulatory activities.
Lead DFMEA, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation; participate in safety reviews.
Execute stage-gate milestones (Concept Freeze, Design Freeze, DV/PV, Pilot Build, Production Release).
Develop system specs, test plans, verification matrices, and design review packages.
