The New York Times Company, via Wirecutter, seeks a temporary lead editor to guide lifestyle and initiatives coverage from our LIC NYC office. You’ll edit and assign stories, manage deadlines, and ensure adherence to Wirecutter standards while coordinating with cross‑functional teams to deliver guide coverage and newsroom initiatives.

You will work with senior editors to plan and execute editorial calendars, support store-related duties as needed, and contribute fresh ideas while maintaining

Formación

• 3+ years of experience at a media company with at least one year of experience working with and editing writers.
• Strong organization and self-starter skills.
• Experience with using web analytics data to make editorial decisions.
• Experience with social media platforms and a general understanding of which content performs best on each platform.
• Passion balanced by skepticism of marketing claims and unproven ideas.
• Experience writing or editing timely, short-form content, collaborating with an art director and/or photo editor to present content visually, and expressing complex ideas using visualizations such as charts, graphs, or infographics is advantageous as well.

Responsabilidades

• Edit and assign stories with the lifestyle and initiatives senior editor to ensure on-track coverage.
• Communicate editorial calendar shifts, deadlines, and focus areas to cross-functional teams.
• Project manage multiple articles and content with different writers; manage deadlines and process; review writers' notes; edit and revise copy; collaborate with Wirecutter editors.
• Write and edit copy for editorial surfaces of the Wirecutter Store.
• Contribute original ideas to planning, propose reporting strategies, and use data to support story ideas.
• Collaborate with fact checkers, copy editors, and producers to prepare pieces for publication.
• Coordinate with audience, affiliate, operations, and photo editors on various aspects of publication and testing plans.
• Perform related work and support our mission of journalistic independence.
