Job summary

Disability Rights Florida seeks a Managing Attorney to protect and advocate for the civil rights of individuals with disabilities in institutional settings, schools, and communities across Florida. You will supervise attorneys and non-attorney staff and oversee the team’s work.

You will deliver legal services, represent clients, appear in hearings and courts, and engage in advocacy, outreach, and education on disability issues. Strong leadership and Florida Bar admission are essential.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of attorney experience, with a focus on civil rights and education preferred.
• Experience supervising attorney and non-attorney staff.
• Florida Bar membership required.
• Knowledge of state and federal law, regulations, court and admin procedures; professional conduct rules.
• Significant civil rights litigation experience in state or federal courts.
• Strong written/spoken English and legal citation skills.
• Ability to supervise staff and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficient with electronic legal research systems.
• Experience with disabilities, institutional settings, schools, and related advocacy.
• Willingness to travel across Florida; U.S. government clearance may be required.

Responsibilities

• Support the Team Director in managing attorney and staff and overseeing the team’s work.
• Deliver legal services including supervision of advocates/investigators and staff.
• Provide legal representation for clients and the organization.
• Appear in administrative hearings, state/federal courts, agency meetings, and legislative hearings; engage in advocacy and outreach.
