Job summary

Summit School Services LLC is seeking a Lead Fleet Technician to set the tone for safety, quality, and uptime for a school bus fleet. You will diagnose and repair medium/heavy vehicles, oversee inspections, and guide technicians through preventive maintenance to keep routes safe and on time.

Demonstrated leadership in a shop/fleet environment is valued, along with proficiency in diagnostic tools and ASE/CDL related training.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of medium/heavy truck fleet repair experience with at least one year in leadership or training.
• Must have verifiable experience (pay stubs, W-2, etc.).
• Proficient with diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and A/C issues.
• Advanced knowledge of major diesel and gasoline vehicle components.
• Have the recommended minimum hand tools for a diesel technician.
• Strong judgment and decision-making abilities.
• High school graduation or equivalent with related training/experience.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• CDL preferred; company offers free training for mechanics.
• ASE certifications desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair automotive and diesel systems per skill level.
• Perform engine adjustments, rebuilds, and test drives to verify quality repairs.
• Complete safety inspections and sign-offs before releasing vehicles.
• Maintain a safe, organized workspace per Federal, State, and local standards.
• Identify additional service needs requiring advanced support.
• Log labor hours and parts in the maintenance system.
• Report unsafe conditions or vehicle abuse to leadership.
• Respond to road calls and perform mobile repairs as needed.
• Model professionalism, teamwork, and integrity.
• Oversee day-to-day workflow processes.
• Other duties as assigned.
