Job summary

Schneider National, Inc. in Putnam, CT is seeking a Lead Diesel Technician to repair tractors and trailers on 1st shift (Mon-Fri, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.).

You will act as a decision-maker when a manager is not on duty and lead activities to keep equipment in top condition. Responsibilities include annual inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnosing electrical and mechanical truck systems, and supporting the leadership team in skills development.

Qualifications

• Technical degree in diesel technology or minimum 4 years of diesel technician experience.
• Analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Able to provide recommendations regarding maintenance and repair decisions.

Responsibilities

• Perform annual vehicle inspections, routine preventative maintenance and replacement and repair services.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical problems related to all truck systems, including engine, drive train, cab, brakes, suspension, electrical and communication systems.
• Assist the leadership team in developing associates' skills, leading team meetings and enforcing Schneider’s established parts processes.
• Encourage a safe work environment for all associates and visitors.
