Job description

Utilize expertise in diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance on both Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles in an effort to maintain GFL’s fleet in safe and continuous “road ready” condition.

Essential Functions :

  1. Advanced ability to diagnose and repair both Diesel and CNG powered trucks, including engines, electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
  2. Independently lead inspections of brake systems, all engine components, emission systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  3. Provide guidance and mentorship to level B and C mechanics.
  4. Prioritize repairs to maximize efficiency and timely completion of work orders.
  5. Oversee the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedule.
  6. Perform DOT and brake inspections on all vehicles.
  7. Complete reports, work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties as required daily.
  8. Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations.
  9. Understand and interpret intricate electrical and diagnostics schematics.
  10. Active participation in training classes and development opportunities to increase skills and working knowledge.
  11. Maintain a clean work area.

Education, Training, Experience and Licensing / Certification Requirements :

  1. Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related state and federal regulations.
  2. Ability to understand and interpret detailed schematics and manuals.
  3. Communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
  4. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.
  5. Experience using diagnostic software. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.

Physical / Mental Demands :

  1. Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance.
  2. Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required.
  3. Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  4. Ability to operate trucks and other equipment used as needed.
  5. Ability to use a computer and related devices, such as a keyboard or mouse or other related equipment, throughout the workday while seated at a desk or workstation.
  6. Ability to climb ladders, bend or stand for long periods of time.
  7. Ability to reach above shoulders and lift to 50 pounds and push / pull up to 100 pounds.
