Job summary

IonQ is seeking a senior software engineering manager to lead and grow the developer tools team. You will help deliver access to quantum computers and simulators via SDKs, engaging with the developer community to track trends and drive innovation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS, Physics, or related field.
6+ years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience.
5+ years of open source contributions.
3+ years programming in Python.
Experience building SDKs, especially for hybrid cloud environments.
Proficiency with quantum computing SDKs (Qiskit, Pennylane, CirQ).
Strong team management practices and scaling distributed teams.
Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration across software teams.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of software engineers building SDKs and libraries for quantum computers and related systems.
Contribute hands-on as a player-coach, staying connected to the team's work.
Engage with developer forums and events to stay current in the field.
Provide technical leadership to build robust, scalable software and drive best practices.
Drive delivery of key programs and initiatives across the org.
Partner with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and cross-functional teams to scope and drive large programs.
Develop and iterate on program management techniques and KPIs with clear success criteria.
Create high-quality written proposals, communications, and documentation.
Develop plans that drive alignment across teams and stakeholders.
Assist in hiring key staff within the first three months.
