Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Design Engineer with significant experience in leading diverse teams and managing complex layouts for defense contracts. You will develop major components, assess manufacturability, and coordinate with multiple engineering groups to ensure accurate, compliant designs.

Qualifications

• Design Apprentice certification or Associate's degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience.
• Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of applicable experience.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Final clearance required to start.
• Strong knowledge of configuration management and revision control.
• Extensive background in Siemens Teamcenter software application preferred.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work with Platform and Propulsion Plant Engineering, IT, E92, SUBE and EB customers.
• Ability to lead a diverse team of 12-14 individuals
• Good work prioritization skills
• Ability to generate quantitative metric data to show continuous improvement
• Strong leadership skills and focus on customer support

Responsibilities

• Design major components or major portions of functional systems to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
• Develop basic data and preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals
• Investigate design factors including manufacturability, materials and equipment availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specifications, and cost
• Coordinate with organizations affected by design development
• Create layouts of complex assemblies and detail parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures
• Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, standards, procedures, specifications, calculations, and dimensioning accuracy
• Identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies
• Recommend design layout revisions and improvements to responsible engineers or designers
• Lead a diverse team supporting Aircraft Carrier and Submarine contracts
