Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for Dataplane & Edge Infrastructure to architect and build the TeraWave PoP infrastructure, handling terabits of traffic with low latency. You will lead design and implement high-performance dataplane using DPDK and VPP, optimize networking stacks (BGP, OSPF), and mentor engineers while setting coding standards across the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering with a focus on high-performance networking or systems programming.
• Deep hands-on experience with DPDK and VPP, with ability to extract maximum performance from NICs.
• Expert-level proficiency in C or C++.
• Understanding of IPv4/v6, BGP, MPLS, VXLAN, and Segment Routing.
• Strong knowledge of Linux kernel networking, eBPF/XDP, and tuning for high-performance workloads.
• Experience designing or maintaining large-scale distributed systems or ISP-grade edge infrastructure.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills translating low-level concepts.

Responsibilities

• Architect a scalable, resilient PoP infrastructure from the ground up with foundational principles.
• Build and optimize the dataplane using DPDK and VPP for wire-speed processing.
• Implement and tune IP networking stacks including BGP, OSPF, and custom routing logic.
• Drive performance engineering to reduce bottlenecks across software-hardware interfaces.
• Mentor engineers and set standards for code quality and system design.
• Define edge infrastructure patterns to support terabits of traffic.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate PoP with the satellite ecosystem.
• Advance dataplane engineering methodologies, tooling, and deployment processes.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging high-performance networking technologies.
