Job summary

AT&T is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead design, automation, and operation of enterprise database platforms in AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments. This role drives IaC initiatives, deployment automation, and platform engineering across cloud services and database technologies, with a focus on reliability and scalability.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in systems or cloud engineering, strong Terraform/GitHub Actions experience, and leadership skills to mentor teams across groups.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or cloud platform experience.
• Proficient with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code development.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.
• Deep knowledge of AWS services (EC2, IAM, KMS, SSM, VPCs, EBS, security groups).
• Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL databases.
• Linux system administration.
• Scripting in Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform and GitHub Actions.
• Design and maintain reusable deployment modules and workflows.
• Develop automated build, deploy, validation, and lifecycle workflows for cloud DB infra.
• Standardize database deployment architectures and provisioning patterns.
• Support modernization efforts migrating to GitHub-based automation.
• Design cloud-based database hosting across AWS/AWS Outposts and hybrid.
• Define infra requirements for Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL databases.
• Develop automated provisioning for compute, storage, networking, backup, monitoring, and security.
• Support platform expansion and deployment pattern creation for new DB tech.
• Serve as senior escalation resource for infra and automation.
• Improve reliability, observability, and operability of DB platforms.
• Develop automated validation, monitoring, compliance, and readiness.
• Collaborate with support to establish repeatable processes and governance.
• Lead architecture reviews and define engineering standards.
• Mentor engineers across disciplines.
• Partner with cloud architecture, migration, security, compliance, and operations teams.
• Coordinate engineering across workstreams and delivery organizations.
• Participate in cloud adoption and backup modernization initiatives.
