Job summary

ParetoHealth is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to independently lead applied AI and data science workstreams that translate complex healthcare data into improvements in risk selection, pricing accuracy, and underwriting experience.

Role includes problem framing, feature engineering, model development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and business-impact measurement, with cross-team collaboration and governance requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field; an advanced degree is a plus
• 8+ years in data science, machine learning, statistics, actuarial analytics with healthcare or insurance data
• Advanced Python and SQL, with scikit-learn, XGBoost, GBMs; PySpark for scale is preferred
• Deep expertise in supervised/unsupervised ML, explainability, calibration, and optimization
• Production models ownership and MLOps lifecycle on AWS or similar cloud platform
• Familiarity with Kedro or similar pipeline framework; experience with LLMs is helpful
• Strong business acumen to connect analytics to outcomes; ability to influence cross-functional decisions

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery for predictive underwriting and pricing workstreams, from framing to deployment and monitoring
• Develop, compare, and challenge models and hybrid rule/model approaches
• Ensure solutions meet model-risk, governance, privacy, and regulatory expectations
• Contribute to team capability with reviews, reusable components, and mentoring
