Job summary

AbbVie seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead omnichannel engagement analytics within the APEX Enterprise Advanced Analytics and Innovation team. You will set the multi-year science vision for personalized commercial engagement and drive scalable AI/ML solutions across stakeholders.

You will combine deep hands-on expertise in applied machine learning, generative AI, and causal inference with leadership to align cross-functional partners and deliver measurable business impact.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied science with production models and measurable impact.
• Experience setting technical direction for AI/ML portfolios and influencing senior leaders.
• Experience building personalization, recommendation, or marketing-science solutions.
• Hands-on experience with generative AI and AI-assisted development tools (LLMs, agents).
• Deep proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with PyTorch/TensorFlow and distributed processing.
• Experience deploying AI/ML in cloud environments with monitoring and lifecycle management.
• Track record of leading initiatives across cross-functional stakeholders and presenting to executives.

Responsibilities

• Define the Data Science vision and multi-year technical roadmap for omnichannel analytics.
• Shape AI value, size opportunities, build business cases, and influence senior decisions.
• Lead hands-on with Gen-AI, prototype hypotheses, and build scalable LLM-backed systems.
• Design predictive and causal models for next-best-action and resource allocation.
• Own measurement science using experimental methods to prove AI impact.
• Partner with product owners to define outcomes, scope, and success metrics.
• Navigate stakeholder ecosystems and translate requests into well-posed problems.
• Communicate complex methods to executive and non-technical audiences.
• Productionize at scale with BTS, engineering, and platform teams; ensure reproducibility.
