Job summary

AbbVie Inc. seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead the omnichannel engagement analytics program and to shape the multi-year science vision and technical strategy for AI/ML solutions powering commercial engagement.

You will work with Gen-AI, causal inference, and experimentation, partnering with product owners and leadership to prioritize problems, articulate business value, and deliver scalable, rigorously evaluated models across complex stakeholder groups.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of data science, machine learning, or applied science with production models.
• Experience setting technical direction for a portfolio of AI/ML solutions.
• Experience building personalization, recommendation, or marketing-science solutions.
• Hands-on experience with generative AI and AI-assisted development tools.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with deep learning frameworks.
• Experience deploying and monitoring AI/ML in cloud environments (MLOps).

Responsibilities

• Define the multi-year data science vision and technical roadmap for omnichannel analytics.
• Identify opportunities where AI drives measurable commercial impact and build the business case.
• Prototype with Gen-AI and LLM-backed systems; implement context engineering and evaluation frameworks.
• Design next-best-action, recommendation, and sequential decision models for engagement and allocation.
• Establish measurement science using experimental and quasi-experimental methods.
• Partner with product owners to shape problems, not just fulfill requirements.
• Navigate a complex stakeholder ecosystem and align with executives across functions.
• Communicate findings clearly to executive and non-technical audiences.
• Productionize AI/ML solutions with engineering and platform teams at scale.
• Raise the bar for scientific rigor and reproducibility across the team.
