Job summary

9amHealth is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to own and evolve the data platform, pipelines, and analytics stack. You will lead architectural decisions, write production-grade Python and SQL on AWS (Glue, Redshift, S3), and mentor junior engineers while shaping our data strategy.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams including data science, product, and operations to deliver reliable, scalable data products and support AI/ML initiatives.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a hybrid data/software role.
• Strong Python and SQL with production code; CI/CD and code reviews.
• Experience with AWS data services (Glue, S3, Redshift, Athena).
• Experience designing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Knowledge of data modeling (star/snowflake, slowly changing dimensions).
• Ability to communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and own architecture, standards, and coding practices for the data platform.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines in Python on AWS.
• Drive analytical data models and semantic layer for self-service BI.
• Build integrations with internal and third-party systems.
• Set technical direction and standards; mentor teammates.
• Own data quality, governance, reliability, monitoring and incident response.
• Support AI/ML initiatives with data prep and feature engineering.
• Partner with operations, product, finance, and engineering to translate business questions into data products.
