Job summary

Law360 is seeking an Assistant Managing Editor to lead the data team, overseeing reporters, editors and researchers who turn data into compelling journalism. The AME will guide story ideas, coach staff, and own the quality of all published data-driven work.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong editing, data literacy, and the ability to translate complex numbers into accessible storytelling for a broad legal audience.

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years in newsrooms with data-driven or investigative reporting
• Leadership experience in a newsroom
• Strong editing and editorial judgment on data-heavy stories
• Ability to explain complex numbers clearly
• Experience working with datasets of varying quality

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage data reporters and editors, setting reporting standards for data-driven series.
• Edit data-driven stories for accuracy, clarity, fairness and narrative strength.
• Develop and pitch data-driven series and projects, guiding from concept to publication.
• Coach reporters and editors to sharpen data skills and writing.
• Own the editorial quality and integrity of the team's output.
• Collaborate with graphics, research and survey analysts to ensure sound data presentation.
• Coordinate cross-functional work to publish on time and meet high standards.
