Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Data Infra group to own the strategic vision and long-term architecture of our exabyte-scale data platforms. You will lead end-to-end design across Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino, Druid, Airflow, and Data Catalog, guiding a large engineering organization with ambitious, measurable goals.

You will drive multi-year roadmaps, collaborate with executives, data science, and product engineering, and push for high-performance, cost-efficient systems

Qualifications

• BS in CS or equivalent.
• 8+ years of production-grade, large-scale distributed systems experience.
• Deep mastery of data tech stack: Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino, Druid, Hive, Airflow, or Data Catalog systems.
• Proven track record architecting core data platform code and distributed systems at hyper-scale.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-year architectural vision for core data platforms.
• Lead cross-functional alignment across executives, governance, data science, and product engineering.
• Optimize engine internals, query planning, and memory usage for peak performance.
• Pioneer AI/ML integrations for data discovery and metadata generation.
• Mentor engineers and uphold engineering excellence across teams.
