Job summary

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield seeks a Lead Data Engineer to orchestrate, deploy, and scale cloud or on‑premise data infrastructure that targets big data and platform data management. You will lead the development of scalable data integration and data API solutions to deliver reliable, high‑performing data platforms.

You will guide a cross‑functional team, applying best practices for ETL/ELT, data modeling, security, and governance, translating data into actionable insights for stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or Engineering or related field, or 4 additional years of relevant work experience.
• 8+ years of experience leading data engineering and cross-functional teams to implement scalable ETL/ELT solutions.
• Strong AWS Redshift expertise and cloud data warehouse administration, including sizing, backups, and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team to design, configure, implement, monitor, and manage the Data Integration Framework for optimal performance and reliability.
• Develop and maintain data infrastructure (data warehouses, data lakes) and data access APIs; work with Hadoop/MapReduce where applicable.
• Model Data Warehouse solutions, understand dimensional modeling, OLAP, and data warehousing concepts.
• Oversee data initiatives, ELT/ETL activities, data collection frameworks, and data quality checks.
• Enforce best practices for data auditing, scalability, reliability, and performance; connect large data sets from multiple sources.
