Job summary

Rocky Mountain Institute is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to drive our Data and AI Engineering initiatives, building pipelines, databases, and cloud infrastructure to support energy transition projects.

You will work with cross-functional teams to implement data reliability, deploy Azure resources, and integrate LLM-enabled tools. Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and cloud platforms is required, with strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of data engineering, data science, or related experience.
• Proficiency in Python for data processing and automation.
• Working knowledge of R for analysis and statistics.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with integrating LLM APIs into data workflows.
• Experience with cloud-based data workflows; Azure familiarity a plus.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and multi-project pacing.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data ingestion pipelines between internal systems.
• Develop AI-enhanced applications and integrate LLMs via APIs.
• Design and maintain MySQL/PostgreSQL schemas for dashboards and reporting.
• Improve data reliability and monitoring across data flows.
• Deploy and manage Azure resources (db, storage, web/app).
• Develop connectors for AI tools and ensure secure data processing.
• Write clean Python and R code to automate workflows.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to map data processes and impacts.
• Migrate siloed processes into centralized, accessible systems.
