Job summary

Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) seeks a Lead Data Engineer to join our Data and AI Engineering team. You will design and optimize data pipelines, implement AI-enhanced capabilities, and collaborate with a cross-disciplinary group to deliver robust data solutions for climate and energy transition initiatives.

You will work with cloud storage, ETL/ELT pipelines, and APIs, writing Python and R to automate workflows while ensuring data reliability and security across projects.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in data engineering, data science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python for data processing, scripting, and automation.
• Working knowledge of R for data analysis and statistical tasks.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with integrating LLM APIs via MCP servers.
• Experience with Azure cloud services is a plus.
• Strong communication with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Support data ingestion pipelines between internal systems (e.g., Workday, Salesforce).
• Support the development of internal AI-enhanced applications, integrating LLMs via API and MCP.
• Assist in building and maintaining relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) for dashboards and reporting.
• Deploy and manage Azure cloud resources (db, storage, web/app) per project needs.
• Write clean Python and R code to automate data processing tasks.
• Collaborate with operations staff and translate data processes for stakeholders.
• Assist in migrating siloed data processes to centralized systems.
• Work with IT to ensure security and fidelity of cloud data services.
