Job summary

RMI is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to advance data pipelines, infrastructure, and AI-enabled capabilities. You will partner with a multidisciplinary team and report to the Data Engineering Manager on the Strategic Operations team.

The role emphasizes cloud data storage, ETL/ELT pipelines, and coding in Python and R to support analytics and dashboards. Remote-ready with US-based offices and flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional or internship experience in data engineering, data science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python for data processing, scripting, and automation.
• Working knowledge of SQL queries and relational databases.

Responsibilities

• Support development and maintenance of data ingestion pipelines between internal systems (e.g., Workday, Salesforce).
• Develop internal AI-enhanced applications, integrating LLMs via API and MCP.
• Assist in building and maintaining relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) for dashboards and reporting.
• Help implement data reliability and monitoring across data flows.
• Deploy and manage Azure cloud resources (database, storage, web app, function app) per project musings.
• Assist with testing and deployment of connectors for general AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude).
• Write clean, reusable Python/R code to automate data tasks and analytics workflows.
• Collaborate with operations and non-technical stakeholders to map data processes and impacts.
• Migrate siloed data processes into centralized, accessible systems.
