Job summary

Volusia County Schools is seeking a Custodian Shift Leader at Osteen Elementary to ensure a clean, safe environment. You will supervise custodians, follow district procedures, and perform routine cleaning and minor repairs.

The role requires on-call availability for emergencies and occasional after-hours work. The position emphasizes teamwork, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication with administrators, staff, and students.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent certificate.
• Two years prior experience as a custodian shift leader or custodian supervisor.
• Must attend and complete on-the-job training sessions.
• Must pass tests on proper use and mixing of cleaning chemicals and procedures.
• Must be available after hours (on-call) for emergency/disaster duties.
• Must be available for scheduled shift work.
• Must be able to operate school board vehicles when assigned.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of children is the priority.
• Perform cleaning and sanitizing per Handbooks and district rules.
• Use custodial chemicals per guidelines and manufacturer’s instructions.
• Operate and maintain custodial equipment per guidelines.
• Maintain trash and recycling and support energy use programs.
• Clean facilities including floors, classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, and more.
• Unlock/secure facilities and restock/restroom supplies.
• Replace lightbulbs and access areas with ladders as needed.
• Maintain air filters, vents and cleaning of HVAC areas.
• Perform minor repairs and touch-up painting.
• Move/assemble furniture and equipment.
• Pressure wash campus exteriors as required.
• Adhere to security procedures and report hazards.
