Job summary

San Diego State University is seeking a Lead Custodian to provide lead direction to custodial staff, coordinate daily assignments, and support cleaning and maintenance across campus facilities. The role combines hands-on custodial work with team leadership to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment on campus.

Standard hours are evenings and weekends with overtime eligibility; 1–2 years custodial experience with leadership is expected, and a valid California driver’s license is required

Qualifications

• Equivalent to 1–2 years of custodial experience and leadership.
• Completion of APPA Supervisor’s Toolkit or equivalent training.
• Valid California Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide lead direction to 10–30 custodial employees, including assigning work and inspecting quality.
• Train staff on equipment, cleaning procedures, safety practices, and emergency protocols.
• Maintain time records and coordinate custodial supply and equipment needs.
• Perform hands-on custodial work and provide Porter service on campus.
• Respond to urgent calls, bio cleanup, floods, etc.
