Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is recruiting to fill a full-time Lead Custodian position located in Union Grove.

Work hours: 6:30am – 3:15pm with a rotation that includes every other weekend. A $.80 per hour weekend differential will be paid for all weekend hours.

Position Summary
Responsibilities

In this position, you will function as a team lead and perform various routine and non-routine custodial/housekeeping tasks requiring moderate physical strength. In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • conducting on-the-job training for custodians.
  • requisitioning and distributing supplies and materials.
  • relaying instructions from the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor.
  • determining the need for special project work to be performed. performing simple operation of basic mechanical maintenance on cleaning equipment while adhering to all safety procedures.
Salary Information

The starting pay is $18.00 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12 month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Custodian Lead and is in pay schedule and range 03/09.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All applicants will be required to provide a minimum of 2 supervisory references including current or most recent place of work.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting between 55 to 75 lbs., twisting, bending pushing and pulling. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

  • This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements for the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy, which are:
  • Must have a valid driver's license;
  • Must have minimum of two years non-probationary licensed driving experience with a regular (Class D) driver’s license;
  • Must be 18 years of age.

Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:

  • Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
  • Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
  • Suspension or revocation of driver's license.
Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience with custodial or housekeeping work including cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekend, holiday, early mornings or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle described above.**

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience training, leading, overseeing, or directing staff in the use of proper cleaning techniques (e.g. use of cleaning chemicals, use and maintenance of powered cleaning equipment, safety signage, etc.)
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external partners (e.g., responding to inquiries, explaining policies and procedures, resolving issues, etc.) by phone or in person.
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook for email communications.
