Job summary

The Montana Department of Corrections is seeking a Transportation Sergeant in Deer Lodge to oversee safety and security of the transportation unit, supervise staff, and handle administrative duties. The role supports inmate care and adherence to policy while ensuring efficient transport operations.

Requirements include a High School diploma, POST certification, a valid Montana driver’s license, and preferably two years of corrections experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and POST certification required.
• Valid Montana driver’s license required.
• Two years corrections officer experience preferred.
• Knowledge of corrections system laws and security techniques.
• Ability to use security equipment and de-escalate situations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise offenders in on- and off-property areas.
• Conduct thorough inspections of inmates, buildings, and grounds.
• Prepare incident reports, disciplinary documents, counts and logs.
• Operate security equipment and monitor cameras.
• Respond to emergencies and enforce rules.
• Direct work of at least 2 FTE officers.
• Maintain order and security per policies and laws.
