Job summary

The Oregon Department of Corrections is recruiting a Transport Sergeant (Madras) to lead a transport unit ensuring secure movement of adults in custody across multiple facilities. You will supervise staff, enforce safety protocols, conduct pre-transport searches, and manage equipment and paperwork for nationwide travel.

Qualified candidates will have correctional security experience, DPSST certification or equivalent, and a valid Oregon Class B license with endorsements.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in a correctional security setting with custody of adults.
• Within two weeks obtain DPSST Correctional Certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Oregon driver license; CDL after assignment optional.
• CDL not required initially but obtainable later.
• Pass range qualifications and background checks.
• Must have clear criminal history.
• Able to pass alcohol and drug testing.
• Oregon Class B Driver's License with Airbrake/Passenger Endorsement.
• Comply with Department contracts and security protocols.
• Experience in Transport Sergeant role is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead staff in mass transfers, medical and court trips, and high-security movement.
• Conduct searches of adults in custody and vehicles prior to transport.
• Maintain key control and report mechanical or supply failures.
• Drive and supervise drivers of various vehicles, up to large transport buses.
• Supervise security staff who may carry firearms; maintain public safety.
• Promote professional conduct and sound security practices with the public.
• Transport adults in custody between facilities and to appointments nationwide.
• Be prepared for overtime and recall during unrest or emergencies.
