The State of Arkansas, through the Department of Corrections, seeks a Corrections Sergeant to oversee the work of Corrections Corporals and Corrections Officers at the Ouachita River Unit in Malvern.

You will supervise daily activities, implement policies, and maintain order to ensure inmate and staff safety in a high‑security environment. This safety‑sensitive role requires leadership, adherence to procedures, and strong communication within a state agency.

Qualifications

• The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma and two years of correctional security or law enforcement experience.
• One year of leadership experience is required.
• Knowledge of department policies and procedures and public safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the activities of correctional officers, assign and review work, provide training.
• Ensure safety and security by conducting regular inspections, shakedowns, and searches.
• Monitor adherence to policies by staff and inmates.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents, including disturbances and security breaches.
• Investigate incidents and report on inmate behavior and security checks.
• Coordinate inmate transportation to medical appointments, court appearances, and other facilities.
• Maintain accurate records of counts and incidents.
